How many treats can I give my dog a day?

As a rule of thumb, treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s total daily calories. That means if your dog eats 500 calories a day, only 50 of those should come from treats. Always check the feeding guide on the pack, and adjust based on your dog’s size, activity level and weight goals. Too many treats — even the healthy ones — can lead to weight gain or tummy upsets.

Can puppies eat the same treats as adult dogs?

Not always. Puppies have different nutritional needs and softer teeth, so they often need gentler, smaller treats that are easier to chew and digest. Many adult treats can be too tough, rich or large for growing pups. Look for puppy-specific options or go with soft treats designed for training, which are usually suitable for younger dogs too. And remember — moderation is key while their digestive system is still developing.

Why does my dog hide his dog treats?

It might seem odd, but this behaviour is completely normal. Dogs often hide treats as a leftover instinct from their wild ancestors who buried food to keep it safe for later. Your pup might be saving the treat for when they’re hungrier or simply don’t feel like eating it right away. It can also be a sign they’re feeling secure and have enough resources to stash. Some dogs just enjoy the act of hiding as part of their play — especially if the treat is something special or rare.
