How EnsoPet Works
Once installed in the garden, using the tongs provided, pet waste is collected and dropped into the composter. EnsoPet Starter is then sprinkled on top. The micro-organisms in the EnsoPet Starter ensure a rapid breakdown of the waste.
Due to this continuous cycle of composting, the EnsoPet composter will take many months — or may never completely fill — ensuring extended use. If your composter does fill, you simply move it to another location in your garden.
Installing EnsoPet
- Assembling the EnsoPet composter is very easy. The 4 sides simply clip together to create a bottomless cylinder. The lid fits neatly on top.
- Select a spot in your garden away from edible plants and phosphorus-sensitive native plants.
- Dig a hole 40 cm deep and 40 cm wide.
- Place the EnsoPet composter into the hole so that only the lid is sitting above ground.
- Fill in the soil around the outside of the EnsoPet composter.
- Place the tongs nearby to aid in waste collection.
Your EnsoPet Is Ready to Use
- Using the tongs, pick up your pet’s waste and drop it into the EnsoPet composter.
- Lightly sprinkle EnsoPet Starter on top of the waste (approx. 20 g per 100 g of pet waste).
- Repeat this process as required. For best results, add smaller amounts often — it’s better to add waste daily rather than weekly.
- Composting requires a moist environment. Rain will enter your EnsoPet through the slots at the sides to help maintain moisture.
- Do not let the EnsoPet dry out — water it alongside your garden as needed.
- The micro-organisms in the Starter ensure rapid breakdown, enabling long-term use of the composter.
- These micro-organisms also help neutralise pathogens in pet waste while enriching and rebuilding the soil at a microbial level.
Top Tips
- If your EnsoPet is filling up too quickly, your soil may need conditioning — installing a second unit will help.
- Composting with EnsoPet improves soil quality thanks to the microbes in the Starter. Poor soil may take a few weeks to improve. Using two units allows more time for this process.
- Add carbon-rich materials like dry leaves, fine bark, or spent potting mix to improve composting performance.
- As soil quality improves, waste will break down more quickly. If you have a lot of pet waste or multiple pets, consider installing an additional unit.
- Want to improve soil in other areas of your garden? Add more EnsoPet units for extended benefits.
